भूगोल की परिभाषा:- भूगोल की विषयवस्तु अति व्यापक है अतः इसे कुछ शब्दों में या पन्तियों में परिभाषित करना अति कठिन कार्य है।भूगोल का वास्तविक अर्थ विभिन्न भूगोलविदों द्वारा दी गई परिभाषाओ में निहित है।अतः भूगोल का सही अर्थ जानने के लिए विभिन्न भूगोलविदों द्वारा दी गई परिभशाओं का गहन व तार्किक अध्ययन व चिंतन करना अति आवश्यक के।

The real meaning of geography lies in the definitions given by various geographers. Therefore, to know the exact meaning of geography, different geographers It is very important to study and think deeply and logically of the definitions given by.
1 - मोंक हाउस :- "भूगोल में पृथ्वी तल का अध्ययन मानवीय निवास के रूप में क्षेत्रीय भिन्नताओं के आधार पर किया जाता है।
अर्थ- मोंक हाउस के अनुसार भूगोल वह विज्ञान है जो पृथ्वी का अध्ययन मानव के निवास स्थान के रूप में करता है। उसका यह निवास स्थान क्षेत्रीय भिन्नताओं को संजोए हुए है। क्षेत्रीय भिन्नताओं के अनुरूप ही मानव का अपना जीवन निर्धारित करता है।"भूगोल की परिभाषा दीजिये तथा उसकी दो प्रमुख शाखाओं के वर्णन कीजिए।"
1 - Monk House :- "The study of the earth plane in geography is done on the basis of regional variations in the form of human habitation.
Meaning-Monk House, geography is the science that studies the earth as the habitat of human beings. This habitat of his has preserved regional differences. According to the regional differences, man's own life determines.
2 -हार्टशोर्न:- "भूगोल वह अनुशासन हैंजो पृथ्वी तल पर एक स्थान से दूसरे स्थान तक परिवर्तनशील स्वरूपों का वर्णन और उसकी व्याख्या 'मानव के संसार' के रूप में करता है।"
अर्थ- हार्टशोर्न ने भी मोंक हाउस से मिलती जुलती परिभाषा दी है।उनके अनुसार भूगोल क्षेत्रीय भिन्नताओं के अध्ययन का विज्ञान है। जो परिवर्तनशील पृथ्वी के स्वरूप का अध्ययन उसे मानव के क्रया कलापों का केंद्र मानकर करता है।पृथ्वी का कण कण परिवर्तनशील है अर्थात पृथ्वी के विभिन्न स्वरूपों- पर्वत, पठार,मैदान,घाटी आदि निरन्तर परिवर्तित होते रहते हैं।
2 - Hartshorne: - "Geography is the discipline that describes and interprets the forms that change from one place to another on the earth's surface as the 'world of man'."
Meaning- Hartshorne has also given a definition similar to that of Monk House. According to him, geography is the science of the study of regional variations. One who studies the nature of the changing earth, considering it as the center of human activities. The particle particle of the earth is changeable, that is, the different forms of the earth - mountains, plateaus, plains, valleys etc. keep changing continuously.
3- एकरमैन:- "भूगोल वह विज्ञान है जो पृथ्वी तल पर समस्त मानव जाति और उसके प्राकृतिक वातावरण की पारस्परिक क्रियाशील विस्तृत प्रणाली का अध्ययन करता है।
अर्थ- एकरमैन ने उपरोक्त भूगोलविदों से हटकर भूगोल को नए दृष्टिकोण से परिभाषित किया है। उनके अनुसार भूगोल एक ऐसा विज्ञान है जो परिवर्तनशील पर्यावरण में एक क्रयाशील मानव के पारस्परिक सम्बन्धों का अध्ययन करता है।उनके अनुसार पर्यावरण एवं मानव के सम्बंध अटूट और श्रंखलाबद्व हैं।

3- Ackermann: - "Geography is the science that studies the detailed system of interaction of all mankind and its natural environment on the earth's surface.
Meaning - Ackerman has defined geography from a new point of view apart from the above geographers. According to him, geography is such a science that studies the mutual relations of an active human in a changing environment. According to him, the relationship between environment and human is inextricable and chain.
4- इमेन्युअल काण्ट:- "भूगोल भूतल का अध्ययन है ,यह भूतल के भिन्न-भिन्न भागों में पाई जाने वाली विभिन्नताओं की पृष्ठभूमि में कई गई व्याख्या है।इसमें सभी घटनाओं के मध्य जटिल एवं प्रयाशील सम्बन्धों अथवा अन्तःसम्बन्धों की ओर विशेष ध्यान दिया जाता है जो पार्थिक एकता के अंग हैं।
अर्थ- प्रसिद्ध जर्मन भूगोलविद इमेन्युअल काण्ट के अनुसार-भूगोल वह शाखा है जो सम्पूर्ण भूखण्ड को एक इकाई मानकर उसपर घटित होने वाली भौगोलिक घटनाओं के अन्तःसम्बन्धों की व्याख्या करता है।
4- Immanuel Kant: - "Geography is the study of the surface, it has many explanations in the background of the differences found in different parts of the earth. In this, special attention is paid to the complex and difficult relationships or interrelationships between all the events. which are part of the earthly unity.Define geography and describe its two main branches.

Meaning - According to the famous German geographer Immanuel Kant - Geography is that branch which treats the whole land as a unit and explains the interrelationships of the geographical events occurring on it.
भूगोल की प्रमुख शाखाएं
प्रारंभ में भोगोल का एक निश्चित सामाजिक विज्ञान के रूप में अध्ययन किया जाता था।जैसे - जैसे इसमें वृद्धि होती गई भोगोल कि शाखाओं उपशाखाओं का विकास होता चला गया। आज भोगोल की दो प्रमुख शाखाएं भौतिक भूगोल और मानव भूगोल हैं।भौतिक भूगोल में पर्यावरण की भौतिक दशाओं का अध्ययन किया जाता है और मानव भूगोल में सांस्कृतिक तत्वों का अध्ययन किया जाता है।भौगोलिक ज्ञान के विकास के साथ साथ भूगोल की अन्य शाखाएं भी विकशित हुई।कुछ शाखाओं के वर्णन दिया जा रहा है ।
1 - भौतिक भोगोल:- भूतिक भूगोल की महत्वपूर्ण शाखा 'भौतिक भूगोल'है।इसके अंतर्गत पृथ्वी की उत्तपत्ति ,आंतरिक संरचना, शैल संरचना, ज्वालामुखी, भूकम्प, वायुमंडल, जलमंडल आदि का अध्ययन किया जाता है।भौतिक भूगोल के तत्वों में खगोल विज्ञान से लेकर समुद्र विज्ञान तक को सम्मिलित किया गया है।इसका अध्ययन क्षेत्र प्रमुख स्थलाकृतियों से लेकर जैव जगत तक फैला हुआ है।जैवजगत तथा वनस्पति जगत अध्ययन भी भौतिक भूगोल में ही किया जाता है।
Major Branches of Geography

Physical geography studies the physical conditions of the environment and human geography studies cultural elements. Under this, the origin of the earth, internal structure, rock structure, volcanoes, earthquakes, atmosphere, hydrosphere etc. are studied. 2 - मानव भूगोल :- मानव भूगोल , भूगोल की दूसरी महत्वपूर्ण शाखा है। इसमें मनुष्य की जातियों ,प्रजातियों, शारीरिक बनावट से लेकर आर्थिक क्रयाकलापों तक का अध्ययन किया जाता है। मानव पर्यावरण एवं मानव के सम्बन्धों का अध्ययन करता है।पर्यावरण का मानव पर प्रत्यक्ष प्रभाव पड़ता है।मानव भी आने क्रियाकलापों द्वारा पर्यावरण को प्रभावित करता है। इस प्रकार मानव भूगोल मानव औऱ पर्यावरण अन्तःसम्बन्धों की व्याख्या करता है।

3 - संसाधन भूगोल:-मनुष्य अपनी प्राथमिक अवश्यक्ताओ की पूर्ति के लिए प्राकृतिक संसाधनों का दोहन करता है। प्राकृतिक ने अनेक संसाधन निशुल्क उपहार भेट किये हैं। मानव उन्हें लेने ले लिए प्राकृतिक से संघर्ष करता है। मानव इन्हीं प्राकृतिक से अपनी आजीविका को निरन्तर आगे बढ़ा रहा है। भीगोल के अंर्तगत संसाधन जैसे मिट्टी, खनिज , कृषि, उद्योग, व्यापार, आदि का अध्ययन किया जाता है।
3 - Resource Geography: - Man exploits natural resources to fulfill his primary needs. Nature has gifted many resources free of cost. Man struggles with the natural to get them. Human beings are continuously advancing their livelihood from these natural. Resources like soil, minerals, agriculture, industry, trade, etc.,are studied under geography.
4 - यातायात एवं परिवहन भूगोल:- आदि मानव का प्रमुख कार्य भजन को ग्रहण करना था। इसे प्राप्त करने के लिए वह इधर उधर घूमता रहता था। उसकी इस प्रवृत्ति ने यातायात भीगोल को जन्म दिया। उत्पादन के साथ विनिमय का उदय हुआ। जिसने व्यापार को जन्म दिया।व्यापार के विस्तार से परिवहन की आवश्यकता हुई। इससे यातायात व परिवहन का विकास हुआ।जनसंख्या का प्रवास उपनिवेशों की स्थापना तथा संसाधनों की खोज ने यातायात एवं परिवाहन भूगोल उन्नत किया। इस वर्कर यातायात एवं परिवहन भोगोल भी भूगोल की एक शाखा के रुप में विकशित हुआ है।
