(A)पर्यावरण का अर्थ:-
मनुष्य जैसे ही पृथ्वी पर जन्म लेता है,वह अपने को चारों ओर से विशेष परिस्थितियों से घिरा हुआ पाता है। ये परिस्थितियां ही उसका पर्यावरण हैं। पर्यावरण मानव भूगोल का एक प्रमुख अंग है, क्योंकि पर्यावरण एवं मानवीय शक्ति का पारस्परिक समन्वय ही मानव का समग्र रूप है प्राकृतिक पर्यावरण मानवीय क्रिया कलापों का निर्धारण करता है।पर्यावरण के अंतर्गत उच्चावच,जलवायु, जल-अपवाह,प्राकृतिक वनस्पति, मिट्टी, खनिज पदार्थ एवम जीव-जन्तुओं को अम्मिलित किया जाता है। वही दूसरी ओर सास्कृतिक पर्यावरण के अंतर्गत किसी क्षेत्र विशेष की जनसंख्या, वितरण, सघनता,स्त्री-पुरूष अनुपात,स्वास्थ्य, शिक्षा,धर्म,रीत-रिवाज आदि तत्वों को अम्मिलित किया जाता है।

(A)Meaning of Environment
As soon as man is born on earth, he finds himself surrounded by special circumstances from all around. These circumstances are his environment. Environment is a major part of human geography, because the mutual coordination of environment and human power is the whole form of human being, the natural environment determines human activities. Under the environment, relief, climate, water-runoff, natural vegetation, soil, minerals Matter and living beings are mixed. On the other hand, under the cultural environment, the elements of population, distribution, density, sex ratio, health, education, religion, customs etc. of a particular area are included.
(B)- पर्यावरण की प्रमुख परिभाषा:-
1-ए. जी.तांसले के अनुसार:-"प्रभावकारी दशाओं का सम्पूर्ण योग,जिसमें जीव रहते हैं,पर्यावरण कहलाता है।"
2- एच. फिटिंग के अनुसार:-"जीवन की परिस्थिति के समस्त तथ्य मिलकर पर्यावरण का निर्माण करते हैं।"
3- डॉ. डेविस के अनुसार:-"मनुष्य के सम्बंध में भौगोलिक पर्यावरण से अभिप्राय भूमि या मानव के चारों ओर फैल उस सभी भौतिक स्वरूपों से है जिसमें वह रास्ता जिसका उसकी आदतों और क्रियाओं पर प्रभाव पड़ता है।"पर्यावरण का अर्थ एवं मानव जीवन पर प्रभाव"

1-A. According to G.Tansley:- "The whole sum of the effective conditions in which living beings live is called environment."
2- According to H. Fitting: - "All the facts of the situation of life together constitute the environment."

3- According to Dr. Davis: - "Geographical environment in relation to man means the land or all the physical forms spread around man in which the way which has an effect on his habits and actions.
विश्लेषण:- उपरोक्त परिभाषाओ के आधार पर यह निष्कर्ष किनाला जा सकता है कि पर्यावरण जीवन की परिस्थितियों को प्रभावित करने वाले कारकों का सम्पूर्ण योग है।इस वर्कर सभी सास्कृतिक परिस्थितियां जो मानव जीवन को किसी भी प्रकार से प्रभावित करतीं हैं,पर्यावरण के अंतर्गत आतीं हैं।भौगोलिक पर्यावरण या वातावरण वह कारक है जिसके निर्माण में मानव का कोई हाथ नहीं होता पर्यावरण कहलाता है।

Analysis:- On the basis of the above definitions, it can be concluded that the environment is the sum total of the factors affecting the conditions of life. In this work, all the cultural conditions which affect human life in any way, come under the environment. Geographical environment or environment is that factor in the creation of which human beings have no hand is called environment.
(C)- पर्यावरण और मानव:-
पर्यावरण का मानव जीवन पर प्रत्यक्ष प्रभाव पड़ता है।कोई भी जीव अपने पर्यावरण के प्रभाव से बंचित नहीं रह सकता।प्रत्येक जीव का जीवन उसके पर्यावरण की ही देन होता है।

(C)- Environment and Human :-
The environment has a direct effect on human life. No organism can remain free from the effects of its environment. The life of every organism is a product of its environment.
1- मनुष्य प्राकृतिक का दास है:(निश्चयवादी विचारधारा):- यूनानी विद्वान मनुष्य को पर्यावरण का दास मानते हैं। उनका कहना है कि मानव अपने प्राकृतिक पर्यावरण से कभी मुक्त नहीं हो सकता।

1- Man is a slave of the natural: (Deterministic ideology): - Greek scholars consider man to be a slave of the environment. He says that man can never be free from his natural environment.
हिप्पोक्रेट्स के अनुसार:-"एशिया की उष्ण जलवायु में रहने वाले व्यक्ति आलसी तथा निष्क्रिय होते हैं,जबकि यूरोप की समशीतोष्ण जलवायु में रहने वाले निवासी स्वस्थ,अधिक परिश्रमी, क्रयाशील एवं चुस्त होते हैं।पर्वतीय क्षेत्रों के निवासी कठिन परिस्थितियों के कारण साहसी और वीर बन जाते हैं,जबकि मैदान के निवासी निर्बल,डरपोक, तथा अधिक सहिष्णु होते हैं।"पर्यावरण का अर्थ एवं मानव जीवन पर प्रभाव"

According to Hippocrates: - "The people living in the warm climate of Asia are lazy and inactive, while the people living in the temperate climate of Europe are healthier, more hardworking, active and agile. The inhabitants of the mountain regions are courageous and inactive due to the difficult conditions. become brave, while the inhabitants of the field are weaker, timid, and more tolerant."The Meaning of Environment and its Impact on Human Life"
कुमारी सेम्पुल के कथनानुसार:-"मनुष्य पृथ्वी की उपज है,पृथ्वी ने उनका पोषण किया है तथा उसके विचारों की निश्चित दिशा में मोड़ा है,वह उसकी हड्डियों, मांशपेशियों तथा शिराओं में प्रवेश कर गई है।"

According to the statement of Kumari Semple:- "Man is a product of the earth, the earth has nourished him and directed his thoughts in a definite direction, she has entered into his bones, muscles and veins."
दिमाजियाँ के अनुसार:-"प्राकृतिक वातावरण ही समाज का स्वरूप निर्धारित करता है।" इस प्रकार कहा जा सकता है कि मनुष्य के कायय एवं सामाजिक संगठन प्राकृतिक पर्यावरण से ही निर्धारित होते हैं। मनुष्य ने नदियों पर बांध तो बना दिये हैं,परन्तु सागर को ना बांध सका,उत्तरी ध्रुव पर उगाने का सपना पूरा ना कर सका,चन्द्रमा पर भले ही गया परन्तु सूर्य पर पहुंचने का दुस्साहस कभी ना कर सकेगा तभी तो कुमारी सेम्पुल ने कहा की "मनुष्य प्रकृति पर विजय उसकी आज्ञा को मानकर ही प्राप्त कर सकता है।" इस प्रकार मनुष्य प्रकृति का दास है,वह उसका स्वामी नहीं हो सकता।"पर्यावरण का अर्थ एवं मानव जीवन पर प्रभाव"

Thus it can be said that the functions and social organization of man are determined by the natural environment. Man has built dams on rivers, but could not dam the ocean, could not fulfill the dream of growing on the North Pole, even though he went to the moon but would never dare to reach the sun, then To kumari Sample said that "Man can achieve victory over nature only by obeying its command." Thus man is a slave of nature, he cannot be its master.
मनुष्य प्रकृति का स्वामी (सम्भाववादी विचारधारा):-मनुष्य एक निष्क्रिय कारक नहीं है। च दो हाथ और एक मष्तिष्क लेकर आया है।उसने अपनी क्षमता और शक्ति से प्राकृतिक पर्यावरण को बदल डाला है।जहां उसकी शक्ति निर्बल ही जाती है वहीं प्राकृतिक पर्यावरण के साथ अनुकूलन कर लेता है। इस प्रकार जहाँ पर्यावरण का व्यापक प्रभाव मनुष्य पर पड़ता है वहीं मनुष्य ने भी पर्यावरण को प्रभावित किया है।

मनुष्य प्राकृतिक पर विजय भौगोलिक परिस्थितियों की अनुकूलता देखकर ही प्राप्त कर सका है। वह अपने बौद्धिक बल से प्राकृतिक परिस्थितियों को अपने अनुकूल बनाने का प्रयास करता है, परन्तु उसे अनुकूलता के लिए प्रतीक्षा भी करनी पड़ती है।तबतक वह वह निष्क्रिय रहकर मूकदर्शक बना रहता है।जबतक परिस्थितियां उसके अनुकूल नहीं बन जातीं और परिस्थितियां अनुकूल बनते ही उन परिस्थितियों को वह अपने पक्ष में मोड़ लेता है।अतः यह कथन की "मनुष्य सक्रिय व निष्क्रिय दिनों ही है।"उपरोक्त कथन से जान पड़ता है,"पर्यावरण का अर्थ एवं मानव जीवन पर प्रभाव"

ग्रिफिथ टेलर के शब्दों में:- "मनुष्य चौराहे पर खड़ा हुआ यातायात नियंत्रक है, वह चलने की गति को धीमा तो कर सकता है,परन्तु प्रगत की दिशा को परिवर्तित नहीं कर सकता।"
मनुष्य की प्रगति पर्यावरण की सीमाओं में ही निहित है।मानव में शक्ति है,वह अपनी बुद्धि का प्रयोग कर प्रकृति को प्रभावित कर सकता है था उसे अपने अनुकूल बना सकता है। प्रकृति एवं मानव दोनों संयुक्त रूप से मिलकर विश्व की गतिविधियों का संचालन करते हैं ।"पर्यावरण का अर्थ एवं मानव जीवन पर प्रभाव"

ग्रिफिथ टेलर के अनुसार:- "मनुष्य किसी देश की उन्नति तीव्र या मंद कर सकता है,वह उसे रोक सकता है,परन्तु यदि वह बुद्धिमान है तो उसे भौतिक वातावरण द्वारा निर्देशित मार्ग से दूर हटने का प्रयत्न नहीं करना चाहिए।"
उपरोक्त विवेचन से स्पष्ट है की पर्यावरण का मानव जीवन पर व्यापक प्रभाव पड़ता है मनुष्य अपने पर्यावरण की उपलब्धता से बच नहीं सकता,मानव का आकार,प्रकार ,रंग,रूप,आवास भोजन,वस्त्र तथा रहन-सहन पर्यावरण की ही देन है। अनेक क्षेत्रों में आज भी मनुष्य विवश होकर प्रकृति की आज्ञा आँख मूंद कर मांन लेता है।

It is clear from the above discussion that the environment has a huge impact on human life, man cannot escape from the availability of his environment, the size, type, color, form, habitat, food, clothing and living conditions of man are the product of the environment. Even today in many areas, man is compelled to obey nature blindly.
