1- प्रस्तावना:- ज्ञान को अर्जित करना मानव का स्वभाविक गुण है। इसलिए जानकारी ग्रहण करने के लिए मनुष्य पुस्तकों का अध्ययन करता है। पुस्तकालय वह भवन है,जहाँ अनेकों पुस्तकों का भंडार उपलब्ध रहता है। वहाँ बड़े- बड़े विचारकों , महापुरुषों व विद्वानों द्वारा लिखित अनेक पुस्तकें मौजूद रहती हैं। वहाँ जाकर मनुष्य अपनी रुचि के मुताबिक पुस्तक लेकर उनसे अध्ययन करता है। पुस्तकालय से बढ़कर ज्ञान की जिग्यासा को शान्त करने का इससे अच्छा कोई अन्य साधन नहीं हो सकता।यही पुस्तकों हमे असत्य से सत्य की ओर तथा अंधकार से प्रकाश की ओर बढ़ने की प्रेरणा देतीं हैं। हमारे अंदर अन्तःप्रकृति से गूंज उठती है। "असतो मा सदगमय,तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय।"

1- Preface:- Acquiring knowledge is the natural quality of human beings. That's why man studies books to get information. A library is a building where a large number of books are stored. There are many books written by great thinkers, great men and scholars. Going there, man takes books according to his interest and studies them. There can be no better means to quench the curiosity of knowledge than a library. These books inspire us to move from untruth to truth and from darkness to light. Our inner nature resonates within us. "Asto Ma Sadgamaya, Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya."
2- पुस्तकालय का अर्थ:- पुस्तकालय का अर्थ होता है- पुस्तकों का घर इसमें विविध विषयों और अनेक विद्वानों द्वारा लिखित पुस्तकों का विशाल संग्रह होता है। गरीब से गरीब व्यक्ति भी पुस्तकालय में विभिन्न विषयों की पुस्तकों का अध्ययन करके ज्ञान को प्राप्त कर सकता है। पुस्तकालय में उच्च कोटि के ग्रंथ आसानी से उपलब्ध हो जाते हैं।

Meaning of library:- The meaning of the library is - the house of books. Even the poorest of the poor can acquire knowledge by studying books of different subjects in the library. High quality books are easily available in the library.

A- विद्यालय के पुस्तकालय:- इस प्रकार के पुस्तकालय में केवल और केवल छात्र व अध्यापक ही उपयोग कर पाते हैं। यह विद्यालय में छात्रों से मामूली शुल्क लेकर उपयोग करने की अनुमति मिल जाती है छात्र कुछ दिनों या महीनों तक अध्ययन कर सकता है।

A- School Libraries:- In this type of library only and only students and teachers can use. It is allowed to be used in the school by charging a nominal fee from the students. The student can study for a few days or even months.
B- सरकारी पुस्तकालय:-सरकारी पुस्तकालय का उपयोग सरकारी कर्मचारी विधान मंडलों के सदस्य ही कर पाते हैं। अन्य व्यक्तियों के उपयोग के लिए नहीं होते हैं।

B-Government Library:- Government library can only be used by the members of the government employees' legislatures. Not for use by other persons.
C- व्यक्तिगत पुस्तकालय:- इस प्रकार के पुस्तकालयों में ज्यादा व्यक्ति लाभ प्राप्त नहीं कर सकते क्योंकि इसमें वहीं व्यक्ति लाभ उठापाते हैं जिनकी उसमें सम्पत्ति लगी हुई है।

C- Personal Libraries: - In this type of libraries, not many people can get benefits because only those people who have property in it are able to take advantage of it.
D- सार्वजनिक पुस्तकालय:- इस प्रकार के पुस्तकालय का उपयोग सभी व्यक्ति कर सकते हैं। इसमें घर पर पुस्तकें लाने के लिए उस संस्था का सदस्य बनना पड़ता है। यहां पुस्तकों की सुरक्षा के इहाज से कुछ जमानत राशि भी जमा करनी पड़ सकती है, जो पुस्तक को जमा करने पर लौटा दी जाती है। पुस्तकालय का यह महत्वपूर्ण अंग 'वाचनालय' होता है, वहीं दैनिक समाचार-पत्र व पत्रिकाएं भी प्राप्त होतीं हैं।

D- Public Library :- This type of library can be used by all the people. In this, one has to become a member of that organization to bring books at home. Here some security deposit may also have to be made for the safety of the books, which is returned on submission of the book. This important part of the library is the 'reading room', while daily newspapers and magazines are also received.
4- पुस्तकालय का महत्व:- पुस्तकालय मानव जीवन की महत्वपूर्ण आवश्यकताओं में से एक है। ये ज्ञान, विज्ञान, कला और सांस्कृति के प्रसार केंद्र होते हैं। पुस्तकालय से अनेक लाभ होते हैं जो निम्न प्रकार से है--a- ज्ञान वृद्धि b- सद्गुणों का विकास c- समाज का कल्याण d- श्रेष्ठ मनोरंजन एंव समय का सदुपयोग e- संगति का लाभ

4- Importance of Library:- Library is one of the important necessities of human life. These are the dissemination centers of knowledge, science, arts and culture. There are many benefits from the library, which are as follows:- a- increase of knowledge b-development of virtuesc-welfare of the societyd-best entertainment and good use of time e-benefit of association
5- कुछ प्रसिद्ध पुस्तकालय:- देश में पुस्तकालयों की परंपरा प्राचीनकाल से चली आ रही है। नालन्दा और तक्षशिला में भारत के अति प्रसिद्ध पुस्तकालय हुआ करते थे। इस समय भारत में कोलकाता, दिल्ली, वाराणसी, मुंबई, पटना आदि स्थानों पर भव्य पुस्तकालय बने हुए हैं।इंलैण्ड में 'ब्रिटिश म्यूजियम' चालीस लाख पुस्तकें तथा अमेरिका के पुस्तकालय में लगभग एक अरब पुस्तकें उपलब्ध हैं।

5- Some famous libraries: - The tradition of libraries in the country is going on since ancient times. The most famous libraries of India used to be in Nalanda and Taxila. At present, there are grand libraries in India in places like Kolkata, Delhi, Varanasi, Mumbai, Patna etc. The 'British Museum' in England has four million books and America's library has about one billion books.
6- पुस्तकालयों के प्रति हमारा कर्तव्य:- जो पुस्तकें पुस्तकालय से ली जाये, उन्हें निश्चित समय और लौटानी ही चाहिए। पुस्तकों पर नाम लिखना, स्याही से धब्बे छापना, पेज फाड़ना, पुस्तकों की साज-सज्जा को नष्ट करना पुस्तकालय का नुकशान होता है। पुस्तकालय के नियम का पालन करना एवं आर्थिक सहायता देकर उन्हें विकशित करना हमारा परम् कर्तव्य होना चाहिए।

6- Our duty towards libraries:- The books which are taken from the library, they must be returned at a fixed time. Writing names on books, printing stains with ink, tearing pages, destroying the decor of books is the loss of the library. It should be our utmost duty to follow the rules of the library and develop them by giving financial assistance.
7- सुझाव:- प्रत्येक गाँव में जनसंख्या के आधार पर पुस्तकालय का निर्माण होना चाहिए।पुस्तकालयों की दशा सुधारने के लिए अपना सहयोग प्रदान करना चाहिए। पुस्तकालयों में अश्लील पुस्तकों पर प्रतिबंध लगाकर उच्चकोटि की ज्ञानवर्धक पुस्तकों का संग्रह किया जाना चाहिए।

7- Suggestion:- Library should be built on the basis of population in every village. Your cooperation should be provided to improve the condition of libraries. By banning obscene books in libraries, collection of informative books of high quality should be done.
8- उपसंहार:- पुस्तकालय ज्ञान को अर्जित करने का अहम स्थान है। कर्मठ नागरिकों के चरित निर्माण एवं समाज के उत्थान के लिए पुस्तकालय के विकास के लिए सतत प्रयाशील रहना चाहिए। पुस्तकालयों में संग्रहित पुस्तकों के माध्यम से ही हम अपने पूर्वजों की गौरवपूर्ण सांस्कृतिक धरोहर से प्रेरणा प्राप्त करते है इसलिए नियमित रूप से पुस्तकालयों में बैठकर अध्ययन करना हमारे आचरण का आवश्यक अंग होना चाहिए। पुस्तकालयों से हमारे समाज के गरीब बच्चे अध्ययन कर पाते हैं। पुस्तकालयों की जितनी बात जी जाए उतना ही कम है।

8- Epilogue:- The library is an important place to acquire knowledge. Continuous efforts should be made for the development of the library for the upliftment of the society and the character creation of the hardworking citizens. It is only through the books stored in the libraries that we get inspiration from the proud cultural heritage of our ancestors, so regularly studying in the libraries should be an essential part of our conduct. The poor children of our society are able to study through libraries. The lesser the talk of libraries, the less.
